About Cortex

With over 20 years of experience, Cortex specialise in developing implanted fiducial markers to improve the accuracy of a patient’s treatment course. Their patented mixed media markers enable clinicians to visualise fiducials in any imaging modality.

The Fleximarc G/T consists of two knurled gold nodes connected by a thin titanium filament. Because of the low density and high magnetic susceptibility of titanium, this marker images as two distinct markers in CT/kV/CBCT, while having enhanced visibility in MRI. The Fleximarc G/T’s titanium connector virtually disappears in kV, making it the ideal marker for tracking with Accuray’s Synchrony or Varian’s ABH tracking algorithm.
The Spaced FusionCoil marker consists of two 5mm open spiral gold coil with titanium alloy cores, separated by a 15MM bioabsorbable spacer. This reduces needle sticks and provides a stable, defined spacing between the markers to facilitate Synchrony and Varian’s ABH tracking algorithms. Because of the low density and high magnetic susceptibility of titanium, the FusionCoil’s unique design reduces the CT imaging artifact seen with other gold markers, while enhancing visibility in MRI.
Stranded Gold Markers consist of two 1.0mm x 3.0mm gold markers separated by a bioabsorbable spacer, providing a 2.0cm centre-to-centre marker spacing. This configuration offers the benefit of two sterile markers preloaded into each 18-gauge needle, yielding a fixed marker spacing perfect for prostate CBCT alignment and motion tracking with less needle sticks for the patient. Stranded Gold Markers are a cost-effective marker option when MRI image fusion is not prescribed.
The Polymark is composed of a proprietary, low-density polymer, which minimizes artifact, is visible in kV/MRI/CBCT and ultrasound. It is ideal for both photon and proton-based treatments.
The FusionCoil marker consists of an open spiral gold coil with a titanium alloy core. Because of the low density and high magnetic susceptibility of titanium, the FusionCoil’s unique design reduces the CT imaging artifact seen with other gold markers while enhancing visibility in MRI. The FusionCoil is also available in a linked version, providing two 5mm FusionCoils separated by a 2cm bioabsorbable spacer, reducing needle sticks and providing a stable, defined spacing between the markers. It is also available in cartridge kits for lung cases, reducing the number of needle sticks, chance of edema or pneumothorax.
The FlexiCoil marker is helical gold coil with solid node endpoints. This unique design reduces marker migration and provides clearly definable endpoints unlike other helical markers.
A Cortex classic — our gold markers come preloaded in sterile placement needles. Available in multiple sizes and configurations to meet your needs, all our markers are knurled to inhibit migration.
The PointCoil marker is the smaller version of the FlexiCoil. It consists of a 5 MM open spiral gold coil with a solid gold central node, providing a single imaging point for IGRT. Due to its helical structure, the PointCoil’s design naturally inhibits migration. The PointCoil is also available in cartridge kits reducing the number of needle sticks, and smaller diameter options reducing the chance of edema or pneumothorax.
